The 6th Annual OC Brewhoho has gone and past this past Saturday at the Phoenix Club, but not without reminders that December is here and Christmas is near.  Although it was a blazing 80 degrees in SUNNY So. CAL, the temperature didn’t deter festival goers to sport their Christmas attire and get into the Christmas spirit.  Here are 5 things that we saw at the beer festival that reminded us why the Brewhoho is unique in it’s own way:

1) Special Christmas Theme Beers

Only this time at this event, will local breweries bring their one off and Christmas theme beers. Here are a that got our attention:

The Bruery (9 Ladies Dancing and 10 Lords a Leaping)No introductions needed

Unsung Brewing (Prop Peppermint Patty and Naturia)-A coffee amber and a double IPA respectively, unsung is killing it with their beers.

Hanger 24 (Pugachev’s Cobra)-A December release, the thick caramel and intense flavor reminds us this year’s 15% ABV is just as good if not better than the other years.

2) Ugly Sweaters

Yes, despite the unusual warm temperature in the south-land, festival goers were encouraged to wear their ugly sweaters.  Kudos to those who did, the dog apparently ate mine as my excuse.

3) Special Releases

Local breweries also brought beers Freshly kegged beer from this past week:

Firestone Walker (Luponic Distortion Rev. 008). -According to FW’s website, the hops from this beer is a mix from “Washington state’s Moxee Valley,  a hop from Hallertau that delivers honeydew and cantaloupe aromas, and a racy variety from New Zealand.”  Without going to too much comparison, this revision is not better than 007 and not as bitter.

Noble Ale Works (Whoop)Imperial Stout with BA coffee beans from 2nd craft.  If you’re a big fan of coffee, I highly recommend.

Bottle Logic (Darkstar November)-No introductions needed, this BA imperial stout just came off the line and speaking of lines, it had one of the longest.

4)Picture with Santa

Not a beer line, but probably the longest line inside the Phoenix Club as festival goers gets a free, do-it-yourself and have a stranger take a picture for you as a momento.  Because after all, where are you going to get a picture of beer and Santa? Not at the mall.

5) Hanging Out with Beer Friends

Definitely the best perk to any beer festivals is to come with your friends while meeting new ones.  Be able to hang out and discover local beers while supporting your favorite brewery is what this is all about.  Definitely my favorite Brewhaha productions event throughout the whole year.

Also would like to note for this event,  The English Beat, were fabulous.  Well known for their song “Mirror in the Bathroom, the famous 80s band known for their SKA genre upped the Brewhoho’s excitement another notch.

If you remember this past summer, the inaugural Punk N Brew was also a Brewhaha production. For those who love music and beer, it was the best of both worlds.

Although it is still 80 degrees outside, I am more into the holiday spirit after attending this event. Christmas will no doubt for me to be enjoyed with good beer, great friends, an ugly sweater, and awesome music!
