When Brews and Ho Hos collide at the 5th Annual OC Brewhoho

Another great production by the OC Brewhaha team, the 5th annual OC Brew HoHo made it’s way once again to the Phoenix Club in Anaheim.  And if you were good this year, you were one of the lucky ones who secured a ticket into this Christmas themed beer event. Once you enter, you’ll have unlimited 2 ounce pours, you’ll take pictures with Santa and him if you could have Cantillon for a gift, you’ll see some of the fugliest sweaters, and you’ll dance the afternoon away with Oingo Boingo’s tribute, Dean Man’s Party.  Not bad for celebrating Christmas eh?

All the breweries were spread out throughout the grounds of The Phoenix Club. At no time were the lines really long (maybe except for Noble and Bottle Logic’s specialty brews). Being able to use actual bathrooms in this German themed playground as the event center was an excellent choice. Centralized location for all to arrive in and central to some of the Best OC breweries afterwards.

Lots of specialty beers were made for this event. Some of my  holiday favorites included:

Phantom Carriage Broadacres w/ Cranberry Wild Berliner Weisse w / Cranberry

Stone Brewing Co. Mint Coffee Milk Stout Milk Stout w/ coffee & mint

Avery Raspberry Sour Sour Ale with Raspberries

Artifex/Chapman Crafted Yippee Ki Yay Imperial Red IPA

Stereo Brewing Perfect Day Colorado Spruce Tips IPA

The Good Beer Co. Glogg Glogg Glogg Winter Warmer / 2015 Brew Ho Ho Collab.

Bottle Logic Redeye November Darkstar November w/ Coffee (Ok, it’s not a holiday beer but it was the best I had!)

Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Narwhal Imperial Stout

Barley Forge Fusty Puckett Spiced Winter Warmer

Firestone Wookey Jack (Black IPA) made an appearance here. If you haven’t heard, this beer was being killed off by FW. I talked to Ben the brewer from Venice and he mentioned it would only be made at Venice and probably won’t see it in those “off premise” accounts.  So good news for you Wookey fans.

A comprehensive list of over 90 different beers served can be found here.

I would like to mention the holiday cheer was in the air. My friend and I received a pretzel necklace with lots of snacks from a random stranger (see below).  In the spirit of giving, we ended up giving more than 1/2 away to other random strangers.  It feels like the beer version of the “Starbucks drive-thru pay it forward effect”.  Yes, beer people are the BEST people.

Entertainment included pictures with Santa, life size Jenga, and music by Dead Man’s Party (Oingo Boingo Tribute Band that’s been playing for 15 years and “Danny Elfman Approved”). In addition to plenty of Ugly Sweater dancers flocking around.

Such a fun time for beer lovers alike and would highly recommend putting this event on your must Do’s during the holidays.
