Sip Bar + Lounge at the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel, will host it’s 5th annual Global Day of Discovery on June 16 from 5-7pm.  During Global Day of Discovery, guests and the local community are invited to this exclusive neighborhood event to explore the local craft beer scene with food pairings from Top Chef Janine Falvo and added fun with local live music. Tickets for this event, Taps + Tastes, are $20 a person and includes beer tastings from six Southern California breweries, plus food, entertainment, and self-parking.

Evenings at Renaissance-The fun starts at 5pm at the hotel’s nightly Bar Ritual, featuring a signature Perrier cocktail. In House Master Mixologist Jesse will construct drinks such as a Shandy, which is a summertime drinks typically made with beer and mixed in with a soft drink typically a carbonated lemonade, ginger beer, ginger ale, or apple juice or orange juice.  Keeping with the craft beer scene, expect your Shandy to be made with 2 ounces of Samuel Adam’s Lager, 2 ounces of Orange Juice, 2 Ounces of Perrier, and 2 dashes of bitters over ice. Refreshing!

Six Southern California brewers, including names like Firestone Walker,  Sierra Nevada and South Bay’s The Dudes’ Brewing.  All Breweries will have their experts on hand pouring their signature brews educating guests on flavor profiles. Chef Falvo has created a menu of small passable plates to pair with the available beer selections in tasting glasses.  Expect bites such as a Crispy Pig Ears as a  starter served with a side of salsa verde.  Crunchy, flavorful, and a MUST on any upscale bar food menu.

The tasty bites continue with lobster jalapeno poppers made with curry tempura and drizzled with a mint-cilantro chutney.   Also expect steamed clams made with beer from The Dude’s Brew topped with poblanos chile and smoked garlic.

Pairing:  Strand Brewing’s Atticus IPA.

Chef Falvo next dishes was to “Take locality and indigenous to the area.”  The playful, “Muchie Course“, represents Long Beach with her interpretation of Mac and Cheese. With just the letter “R” in the pasta made with Midnight moon cheese from Cypress Grove that has a dense and smooth cheese with a slight crunch and topped with pecan smoked bacon and cherry tomato. The other take on the munchie course is Chef’s Falvo interpretation on street corn. Fun ingredients like crushed Doritos and Cilantro proves corn can be served up next to beer.

But the most flavorful dishes are without a doubt her duck dishes which has been sous vide for an extensive period of time.  Duck Dog made with pretzel bun, house made smoked duck sausage, topped with Sierra Nevada Torpedo mustard for slight bitterness, caramelized onions, pickled mustard seed,  duck cracklins for added crunch.

Pairing: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Duck Bite: Steamed bun, duck confit, pickled daikon, green onions, and spicy hoisin BBQ sauce.  Pairs well with sweetness of duck. (Main picture)

For dessert, an ice cream float made with The Dudes’ Brewing Blood Orange Amber Ale Vanilla bean topped with cocoa nibs.  A tasty double dosage of creamyness, chocolateness, and silkyness. Basically an adult creamsicle!

For entertainment, Black Noise, a local Long Beach band whose influences include Alabama Shakes, Frank Ocean and Radiohead, has a creative monolith sound which promises to resonate throughout Sip Bar + Lounge. On the patio will be a local DJ spinning contemporary and popular hits.

Guests will also have an opportunity to enter to win a “Staycation” for two at the Renaissance Long Beach Hotel, which includes a two-night stay plus dinner and drinks for two at Sip Bar + Lounge. Tickets are available through Eventbrite and are only limited to 100 guests. The first 50 people through the door will receive a commemorative pint glass and partial proceeds will benefit the students at Washington Middle School.
