Project Taco Locations in Mid-Wishire and Hermosa Beach

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover, that’s what I’ve always been told. This statement definitely holds true inside the quaint Mid-Wilshire restaurant, Project Taco. Yes, don’t let the small building fool you. This restaurant brings out BIG BOLD flavors you never expect from a traditional taco shop.  Thai Peanut Chicken? Blueberry BBQ? Even Vegan alternatives are quite exotic here. From Hermosa Hummus to a Miracle Meatless taco that contains meatless ground beef, hummus, green cabbage, tomato, onion, & cilantro lime crema.

Managing Partner, Nick Fontova proudly states, ¨We have a special relationship with Beyond Meat, the company backed by Bill Gates in El Segundo and they intend to be the leader in the vegan alternative. The company source vegetables from all over the world and Project Taco is the FIRST and featured restaurant serving their vegan beef crumble. This non-soy alternative contains such ingredients like garbanzo beans and peas.  It is a big hit with our Vegan customers.¨

Did I happen to also mention about their flavorful salsas that accompanies their tacos? Spicy selections include habanero pineapple and chili garlic aioli. If youŕe the taco traditionalist, they have pico del gallo, guacamole, and hummus. But if you want something different, ask for a side of their Blue BBQ sauce or a side of the Cilantro Lime Crema. The taste will knock your socks off! Any of these condiments goes great on your taco or even better with tortilla chips!

To complement their crafty tacos, you’ll be able to find lots of craft beer choices here. From local small breweries like Smog City to bigger more well known like Hanger24.  The selection is great too, from Wheat Beers to IPAs to Stouts. A little of everything for everyone. And if you come on Thursday nights, you’ll be able to participate in their steal the glass promotion when you order a beer from the designated brewery.  Past participants from recent weeks included Port Brewing, Alesmith, and Avery Brewing. But come early, glasses are limited. Follow Project Taco on Instagram for the next steal the glass date.

Still curious? Come here on their Taco Tuesday nights where you can get 3 tacos for $9 and judge for yourself.  What better way to try their taco and save a few bucks? Or if you are the lunch time crowd type of person, they currently have the $10 lunch special where you can get two tacos, a side, and a drink. Beer choices are slightly extra.

And to end the meal on the sweet side, you’ll find Fonuts here. Wait what? What are Fonuts you might ask? These are bold flavor baked or steamed donuts you can find on their counter that are prepared fresh daily. Untraditional flavors  range from rosemary olive oil to Blueberry Earl Grey.  They are not overly sweet and they are moist and crumbly,  just the way I imagined the perfect donut would be.  Yes, don’t judge them being good for you, they are super flavorful and ends your meal here on a nice, semi-sweet note.

Oh, and if you ever want to do a slightly more upscale catering taco event as opposed to the usual taco lady, Project Taco can help!   They can provide these exotic tacos, crazy tasty salsa creations, and craft beer all at the location of your choice. So give them a call and impress the heck out of your guests!
