Saturday September 13th, the town of Solvang will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iconic film Sideways with a Merlot Taste- Off, a special tasting event that will feature Merlot poured from some of the region’s top producers.
According to event organizer Tracy Farhad, Executive Director of the Solvang Conference & Visitors Bureau, it is time to reclaim Merlot as one of California’s prized varieties. “No more denigrating Merlot! Come taste these marvelous wines for yourself.”
And what better way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the film that, for many consumers, put the Santa Ynez Valley on the map than with a grand tasting of some of the region’s best expressions of the denigrated variety.
Sponsored by the Solvang Conference & Visitors Bureau, the Merlot Taste Off will run from 3:00-6:00pm in the garden courtyard of the Solvang Festival Theater and will feature Merlot from local favorites, including Buttonwood, Point Concepion, Lucas and Lewellen, Happy Canyon Vineyard, Core, Baehner Fournier, and many more. The Merlot will also be paired alongside gourmet appetizers from many of the Valley’s restaurants.
Merlot Taste-Off tickets are $75 per person and proceeds will benefit the Solvang Festival Theater.
