The Untaming of an Angry Horse

In the depths of East Los Angeles, Angry Horse Brewing Company can currently be found in a residence near the hills of Montebello, made up of a group of home brewers with a passion for making what many will come to know as some of the best beers of Los Angeles. Established in 2011, Luis and Gayle Michel, and partner Nathan Sewell, are Angry Horse.

Members of the Yeastside Brewers Organization, each AHBC partner brings their own interest and expertise to this truly unique brewery.

Luis focuses on the mechanics of brewing, taking much consideration on temperature, quantities and overall production. Since his first brew out of a home brew kit in the early 90’s, efficiency and improvement on batches is what drives him to be the fine brewer he is today.

Nathan’s focus is behind the scenes- the recipe, establishing special batch beers and experimenting with barrel-aged brews. A fan of reds and stouts, the aging of beers fuels his brewing fascination.

Gayle, who comes to LA by way of Illinois-a big beer state-and who is married to a head brewer, is a natural beer aficionado, who takes the reigns of the business side of Angry Horse. A member of the Pink Boots Society, an all-female brewing consortium of 1,200 members, Gayle is a strong representation of female craft brewers.

Together, the partners of Angry Horse compliment each other like parts of a well-oiled machine, with all bases covered, chomping at the bit to un-tap their barrels of delicious brews.

Angry Horse Brewing strives toward heavy involvement in the community, participating in fundraisers to support organizations such as Heaven’s Ranch, a horse rescue farm. Angry Horse plans to ‘pay it forward’, following through with ideas via Indiegogo, supporting perk packages for early supporters of the future brewery.

A solid line-up of seven beers that are bound to become household names, Angry Horse’s East L.A. IPA – a West Coast style IPA- will carry their name: refreshing and balanced, but full-bodied and especially bitter to please you hop-heads. AHBC also offers their take on English IPA’s- the Hooligan- as well as a number of stouts. Angry Horse has their sight set on a location, and the City of Montebello looks forward to wrangling in their first brewery. Keep an eye out for this up-and-comer that demands respect.
