Much is to be said about the South Bay and its growing brewery scene; Smog City has joined the ranks of breweries and celebrated its one-year anniversary. Like many of the brewers in the South Bay, Smog’s brewers are as humble as they come, always welcoming their patrons with warm greetings and enthusiastic cheer, its no wonder that their anniversary party VIP session was a sold out success. The line-up of beer was a monster force of taste, bourbon and hops. Bringing back their barrel aged English barleywine The Bourbon O.E, their incredibly delicious sours the Quercus Circus and The Tempest and topping off the event with the Anniversary Beer a strong saison with merlot. This was the most happening party in the South Bay.
With three stations throughout the brewery the pouring stared with the Main Bar (Front of House) where most of the house brews were being served along with the sours. The Bright Tank Bar (aka Hops bar) poured two special versions of the Hoptonic IPA double dry-hopped; The Hoptango a version with Mango and the Mai Tai HopT with coconut. If that wasn’t delicious enough the hop bar also had a cask of a double dry-hopped saber-toothed squirrel.
The Brewer’s Bar (at the brewhouse) was where the heavy hitters were being poured. with the very special Anniversary Beer, Bourbon O.E, Bourbon Imperial Porter and the uber tasty Black Currant Saison. Most of these beers only made an appearance for this special occasion, which makes smog city’s brews only that much more sought after.
Striving to make the best beers possible it leaves you wondering what’s the next step for the brewery. Well its no secret that bottling is where Smog City will take its venture. With their bottling line ready for production and releasing in early June, Smog city will be extending their reach to a home near you.
