Napa Valley’s CAB Fest

Napa Valley finally has its own varietal festival! This weekend, February 28th- March 2nd, Napa Valley’s Performing Arts Center at Lincoln Theater in Yountville plays host to the first ever CAB Fest, a festival devoted exclusively to Napa’s legendary varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon.

Joining the ranks of Paso Robles’ Zinfandel Fest and Santa Barbara’s World of Pinot, Napa Valley’s CAB Fest is a three day festival that promises entertaining presentations, tastings and demonstrations by world-renown experts from the  Napa Valley premier wine and food industries.  A weekend Grand Tasting will include current releases and library wines from more than 100 of Napa’s top Cabernet Sauvignon producers, including Silver Oak Cellars, Freemark Abbey, Clos du Val, V. Sattui, Etude, and Beaulieu Vineyard to name a few.

In addition to the tastings, the fest also will play host to several educational seminars and keynote presentations that will explore the complexity and mystique of Cabernet Sauvignon.  Panelists include Karen MacNeil, author of best-seller The Wine Bible, who will explore “What Makes Great Cabernet Sauvignon Great,” as well as numerous other winemakers and winery owners from the region. A musical exploration of “How Music Affects the Taste of Wine,” hosted by Symphony Napa Valley’s Orchestra Institute Fellows, as well as a panel discussion entitled “The Shot Heard Round the World” discussing the Paris Tasting of 1976 which launched Napa into the international spotlight, look to be the highlights of the fest.

Evening events include an exclusive “Cab is King Cult Wine Dinner,” hosted by the Culinary institute of America, and a “Cigars and Guitars” after party that will feature Oscar Winner Jeff Bridges’ band, The Abiders, as entertainment.

CAB Fest looks to be an enticing, and hopefully annual festival, devoted to the varietal that made Napa Napa.
