Holy Cow!!

Being a chef isn’t as glamorous as one might think. Many don’t reap the rewards like the few personalities on television and if they do, they still have to pretend to enjoy cooking every now and then at a festival or charity event. That is why I become a chef for one-night-only; at various Korean BBQ restaurants.

Yellow Cow in Gardena is very close to where we live which means we can get there for a fairly early dinner and be back in time to catch “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” on Bravo. Actually, I meant, football. Yea, football.  Yellow Cow doesn’t look or feel much different from your typical Korean BBQ place but the service and quality shines above most. Tucked in the corner of a strip mall without many eye pleasers, it is definitely the fan favorite. Gardena is littered with hidden gems where word of mouth is the only marketing plan that exists. Yellow Cow falls into that category – especially for us – since we have lived in the area for 5 years and have just made this discovery.

Now back to the reason why we love Korean BBQ so much. Not only can you order a ridiculous amount of delicious meats and seafood, you are greeted with a plethora of sides dishes called Banchan which include: bap, guk, gochujang, jjigae and kimchi. As you might have already noticed from this article, it is very difficult to leave on an empty stomach when dining, Korean-style. Stepping into any Korean BBQ restaurant feels like a distant home, but Yellow Cow reminds me of visiting a distant a Korean Grandmother that I never knew existed. The owner checked in on us multiple times, brought us sake, placed our food on the grill, all with a huge smile. It was extremely hard to leave.
